Approximate duration: 3 hours
Day 2: Half day excursion
Morning: We will ride out to the Zalabí river valley and ride deep into the pine forests of the Sierra Nevada natural park. This trip will enable us to witness the great contrasts in local scenery as we ride through bad-lands more typical of Colorado canyons and on to luscious green stream beds full of flowing mountain water. We will continue through the pine forests and eventually climb onto the highest plane of the Iberian Peninsula (1400 meters), from where we will have views over the summits of the Sierra Nevada.
Approximate duration: 3 and a half hours
Day 3: Full day excursion
We will climb up the cliff of Berral, with vertical sides rising up for over 100 meters. Along this path, protected from the winds of the mountains, are hidden gardens that have been cultivated here since the times of the Nazari. Here we find a wide variety of fruits which thrive in the unique microclimate: cherries, almonds, and various other fruit trees). We will climb up to the small village of Albuñan which we will ride through on our horses to enter the Sierra Nevada natural park. We will relax on the shores of the Cogollos lake and allow our horses to drink these fresh glacial waters and, if the weather is warm enough, we can even have a swim! We will then continue towards the village of Jerez del Marquesado, a small mountain village in the footholds of the Sierra Nevada, where we will eat a typical meal in the restaurant “Picón de Jerez”. Following our meal we will ride back over the spectacular cliffs of Jerez and arrive back at our point of departure.
Approximate duration: 5 to 6 hours
Day 4: Half day excursion
The scenery that we will see today is totally different than anything we have seen upto now. We will ride into a western-style canyon where many spagetti westerns were filmed during the 60s and 70s. For a moment we can imagine ourselves to becow-boys in the Arizona desert. As we ride on, we ill arrive on the edge of a crater that used to be the iron mine of Alquife. We will ride around the crater and look down into the gigantic lake that rests in the bottom.
Approximate duration: 3 and a half hours
Day 5: 2 and a half hour excursion
Morning: On this final day of the stay, we will head East into the Natural Park. In this direction, the scenery is different, spectacular, and moonlike, with read earth and semi-deserts which hide an abundant wealth of life: aromatic plants, mountain goats and once again, amazing views of the surrounding areas.
